“Pause friend, let beauty refresh the spirit.” On August 20th, 2016, Joanna and TJ tied the knot. “Beautiful” is the only word that can describe the day appropriately. It was as though beauty followed the couple throughout their special day. The bride’s dress was a Morilee by Madeline Gardener. TJ, the groom, took a less traditional route for his tux, sporting a custom royal blue suit with the wedding date stitched on the inside of the jacket collar. The suit was complemented with a pair of dark brown Louis Vuitton’s. Together this couple demonstrated the definition of “beauty” as they headed to have their ceremony at St. Margaret Mary Church. TJ and Joanna’s tried to keep wedding true to traditional Italian weddings.
In the heart of Winter Park, our couple celebrated with their guests at their reception at the Alfond Inn. The décor for the evening was magnificent. It was as though the linens and table settings were especially designed for that room. The shades of gold and ivory were highlighted perfectly. White roses, the flower of the day, were on every table. There were lovely bombonieres, that were personally handed out to each guest by the newlyweds. Bombonieres are an Italian Wedding tradition. They are given to the guests by the happy couple. Wrapped in lace, the traditional bomboniere contains confetti, a collection of five candy-covered almonds. According to tradition, the almonds serve as a symbol of marriage for the new couple. The sugary sweet coating on the bitter almond is meant to suggest that the couple’s future will be filled with more sweet times than bitter. It is also meant to signify the hope that the sweet times will get the couple through the bitter times. The five almonds represents the five wishes for sposi: health, fertility, wealth, happiness, and long life.
To many, the date chosen for the wedding is all about making it fit into an already scheduled life. TJ and Joanna’s wedding date, however, was chosen with a purpose. On August 20th, 1976, the bride’s parents were married. As a special anniversary gesture, Joanna and TJ had a cake made just for her parents, complete with a bride and groom cake topper.
As the reception came to a close, guests were in for a treat. Commonly at weddings today, favors of some kind are given to the guests. Joanna and TJ decided to expand on that idea. In addition to a gift, each guest was given a small boxed piece of wedding cake to take home. Who does not want cake to go? The guests were thrilled about this thoughtful gesture. It was a sweet ending to a beautiful day.
